Basketball
Ready to Slam-dunk!?
The Basketball Challenge is the second event in the London Corporate Decathlon. Basketball, Touch Rugby and Volleyball form the Team Sports Series. This event is also part of the Olympic Sports Pentathlon (Athletics, Table Tennis, Swimming, Volleyball and Basketball)
The Sport: Basketball was invented in 1891 by Dr James Naismith, a Canadian physical education teacher who wanted to create a game that could be played indoors during the winter by his students at the YMCA in Springfield, Massachusetts.
The Challenge: The highly energetic 5 vs 5 challenge is guaranteed to separate the men from the boys! Pre-event team training is recommended to ensure you know your lay up from ally-up and your slam dunk from your ker-plunk! Contact the Tournament Manager to arrange this.
Venue Location
Event Information
The Tournament will be two pools of round robin format with the top 2 teams from each pool progressing to the semi finals. Losing semi finalists will play off to determine 3rd/4th places whereas the winning semi finalists will compete in the grand final.
Brixton (Victoria line) is the nearest tube station. It is a 3 minute walk from the tube to the venue.
Brixton is the closest overground station. It takes 1 minute to walk from the station to the venue.
Car parking is limited and expensive in Brixton so we do not recommend that you drive to the venue.
The LSBU Brixton Topcats are a national league Basketball team, coached by Basketball Development Officer Andy Powlesland. Most of the officials that will attend this event are club members and students at The London South Bank University. Through the LSBU Sport Ambassador programme these students are qualified community coaches who volunteer at afterschool clubs and projects. More recently, through the Corporate Decathlon, some have extended their coaching to include corporate teams as well!
