After a day of frenetic activity and fast-paced matches it was the magnificent athletes of CLAN who rose above the competition to take the spoils in the BP Basketball Challenge, thanks to a hard-fought win over Bibby Offshore in a pulsating final. Logica picked up the final podium position in the cup competition, just edging out First Group, who finished in 4th, while BP Wild-Card, PwC, Champion Technologies, and Dana Petroleum can be well proud of their efforts in reaching the quarter-final stage.
In the plate competition, Centrica bounced, passed, and possibly even dunked their way past Atlas to take the crown, with Atkins Group taking 3rd after a nail-biting play-off with Anderson Anderson Brown.
As usual in Corporate Decathlon events, there was the mixture of the outstanding, the outrageous, and the just plain out, but as 15 happy corporate teams headed home at the end of the day, it was CLAN who were weighed down with the largest trophy, and expectation of trying to repeat this feat at the Dance The World Challenge sponsored by CNR International in a months time!
Teams will initially compete in a pool with up to 4 other corporate teams. The top two teams from each pool progress to a knock out Cup competition.
Teams that finish 3rd & 4th in the pool stage will progress to a knock out Plate competition. Both the Cup and Plate knock outs include quarter-finals, semi-finals, 3rd/4th play off and final.

The BP Basketball Challenge is the third event in the Aberdeen Corporate Decathlon. Basketball, Touch Rugby and Highland Games form the Team Sports Series. This event is also part of the Olympic Sports Pentathlon (Canoeing, Mountain Biking, Highland Games, Badminton, Basketball)
The Sport: Basketball was invented in 1891 by Dr James Naismith, a Canadian physical education teacher who wanted to create a game that could be played indoors during the winter by his students at the YMCA in Springfield, Massachusetts.
The Challenge: The highly energetic 3 vs 3 challenge is guaranteed to separate the men from the boys! Pre-event team training with Beacon Basketball Club is recommended to ensure you know your lay up from ally-up and your slam dunk from your ker-plunk!
