CNR International Dance The World
Fling yourself into a fab-u-lous dance line up!
The CNR International Dance the World Challenge is the fourth event in the Aberdeen Corporate Decathlon. Dance The World, Lawn Bowls and Darts forms part of the Social Sport Series.
The Sport: Dance has been recorded through history as an art, exercise and a form of communication. It can incorporate everything from coordination, balance, synchronization, and even martial arts and gymnastics.
The Challenge: Teams of 8 will include 4 pairs, each of which will learn a different dance for the competition. Dances include the Highland Fling, Line Dance, Argentine Tango and Salsa. The real challenge is to deliver an a-ma-zing performance in front of colleagues, friends and family, hopefully progressing to the final rounds of the dance off!
As a highlight of the year, Dance the World promises great entertainment for both competitors and spectators.

Event Information
Each dance will last approximately 2.5 minutes. If the judges haven’t made a decision, this time may be longer.
There will be 2 rounds for each dance, where points will be added together to decide who goes through to the finals. Selected couples will go through to the semi-final and then final.
There will be prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd in each dance.
Marks will be awarded for correct technique only. Couples will be judged on Timing, Footwork, Rise and Fall (where applicable), Sway (where applicable), Alignment and Posture. For advice on correct technique consult your teacher. The judge's decision is final.

How many people compete in each dance?
Each company has a team of 8, and from that team of 8, 2 will compete in each dance. In the Highland Fling the 2 competitors will work at a team to earn their score. In Line Dancing, Argentine Tango, and Salsa, the team of 2 will be coupled to compete. There only needs to be one male on the entire team of 8.
Are we able to go along to the classes to see if the dance is for us?
The dance classes held at the Carmelite and the Westhill Scout Hut are open classes. Those teams that have advanced training packages, they are able to send along 2 people from their team every week at no charge. They don’t have to be the same couple every week. Those who would like to attend over and above the couple allowed through the advanced training can attend at £5 per person per class. The teams with standard training packages can attend these classes at the same price.
Who do I contact in order to attend the event to support my company, friends or family?
If you are a member of staff please contact your Decathlon Captain to find out if there is already something arranged for you. If not, please contact Stephanie to order additional tickets for friends and family.
The Argentine Tango is usually a very up close and personal dance, is this the case for the competition?
The Argentine Tango is indeed usually very close and passionate. However, keeping in mind a lot of our competitors are colleagues, the dance has been choreographed taking this into account. So don’t worry, we are trying to bring your team together, but not that closely.
