Rick Johnston
Richard left his career with a leading software development company to set up activitymix in 2003. An engineering graduate with an MSc in Human Resources, Rick has always been an enthusiastic sportsman. He coached tennis in America, and has played recreational rugby, football, golf, and touch for the last 20 years, (and despite his advancing years, still plays!).
Born and raised on the Island of Iona, Richard was involved in sport from an early age, playing his first competitive football match at the age of 8 against Lochdon Primary on the Isle of Mull, ('we won 7-2, sadly, that was probably highlight of my career!'). From there, he got involved in, though never excelled at, every sport going, captaining various teams and joining the organising committee of the Sports Union at Aberdeen University.
'The 'lightening strike' moment for me was at the software company, seeing the impact that even a small bit of team activity could have on engagement levels, and therefore bottom line business performance. From there, it was all about creating a model that would allow clients to leverage these benefits across as wide a spectrum as possible, whilst being able to bring new life to grass roots sporting organisations'.
Richard currently lives in Westhill, just outside Aberdeen, and makes regular trips back to Iona, ('with a player pool that small, they still need me!') where he was married in the summer of 2011 to Karen.
